The pros and cons of restricting carbohydrate intake in children

Is it okay to limit carbohydrates for children?

Hello!

I'm the owner of Fusubon! I often get asked, "What should I think about limiting carbohydrate intake for my children?"

To sum up, the answer is that consuming carbohydrates is generally OK, but you just need to be careful about your sugar intake.

A diet that is low in carbohydrates, high in protein, high in fat, minerals, vitamins and dietary fiber is also recommended for children, not only for their physical development but also for mental stability.

Low-carbohydrate, high-protein, high-fiber diet

In particular, protein intake
Written by Manabu Mishima, "Change your child by restricting carbohydrates!" There are specific descriptions in the Mishima Juku recipes.

Protein (meat, fish, eggs, cheese) requirements Ideal body weight (kg) x 7.5 = minimum requirement (g)

As stated above, unlike adults, children need protein to grow and need to get enough of it.

How to limit carbohydrate intake and breakfast for children

What do you think about children's meals?

In his book, he also writes about breakfast:
It's okay to eat or not. If you eat, it should be a low-carb diet.

Considering that you will be eating school lunches for lunch (described below), I also recommend limiting carbohydrates at breakfast to some extent.

Be careful about your children's carbohydrate restriction and snacking after they get home rather than school lunches!

What do you think about sugar in school lunches?

School lunches are inevitably carbohydrate-centered, so if parents are on a carbohydrate-restricted diet, I often hear them say that they don't want their children to eat school lunches at all and that they want the quality to be improved. However, there is also the need to consider the diet of other children, so I don't think there's any problem with school lunches.

During nursery school, kindergarten, elementary school, and junior high school, children are likely to be very active, playing outside and participating in club activities, so there is no need to worry about the carbohydrates served in their school lunches.

Rather, I would like you to be careful about snacks, soft drinks, and excessive carbohydrates and desserts at dinner on the way home from school and when you return home.

Limiting your child's carbohydrate intake will improve their grades!

Increased concentration through carbohydrate restriction leads to improved grades

Ketone body therapy has long been used as a treatment for children with epilepsy, and at Mishima Juku,
○ Children no longer get sleepy during class, their hyperactivity disappears, their concentration improves, and their academic performance improves. There are also children who do not show any signs of rebellious phase, or whose rebellious phase is only mild.
○A student who had been absent from school was able to return to school in about three months by using a method based on "carbohydrate restriction" and adding vitamin and mineral supplements to make up for missing nutrients.

Given that various results have been reported, such as the above, I believe there is no problem with the safety of restricting carbohydrate intake in children.

If you absolutely must have cake or bread as a snack, we recommend Fusubon's bread and sweets, which contain no artificial sweeteners or preservatives!

Until next time,
