Introducing gyms and stretching exercises near Daikanyama - Recommended by the manager of Fusubon Daikanyama

Hello! I'm Takada, manager of Fusubon and Daikanyama store manager. At the Daikanyama store, I think there are many people who are doing regular exercise and going to the gym in addition to eating a low-carb diet.

So today, I would like to introduce some unique and recommended gyms that are within walking distance of Fusubon Daikanyama, along with my impressions of actually going there.

This futuristic EMS training gym opened in June 2018 and is SIXPAD's first new membership service .
At "SIXPAD STATION," training is conducted while wearing an EMS full body suit.
This sports gym combines EMS technology, which directly stimulates muscle fibers deep inside the body and supports muscle training through electrical stimulation, with movement, allowing you to train your entire body simultaneously in just 15 minutes .
*As of June 2018, only the Daikanyama store is available. The Roppongi store will open in 2019.

Training Content

During the training, you will wear special clothing and then an EMS full body suit over it.
The full body suit is adjusted to fit each individual's body, targeting 18 muscles in 9 different parts of the body.
Training is conducted one-on-one with a dedicated instructor. The EMS level can be increased from 1 to about 35 and adjusted according to the person's fitness level.

Try it out yourself *Experienced in June 2018

First of all, as this is SIXPAD's first training gym, I was excited even before going to SIXPAD STATION Daikanyama.
It may be a bit bandwagon-like, but my motivation naturally rises when I see the exterior and interior featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, my favorite guy and the advertising model for SIXPAD, as well as the video playing on the large monitor inside the building.
*I love soccer, so there's a lot I want to say about Ronaldo, but I'll leave it at that because it would make this post super long.

① Reception (Advance reservation via the web is required)
Once inside, you will be greeted by refreshing staff and instructors.

② Fill in the required information
After filling out the medical questionnaire, your blood pressure and temperature will be measured on the spot.

③Changing clothes
In the changing room, you will change into the training wear provided to you at reception.

④ Move to the training room and put on the EMS full body suit. Your instructor for the day will greet you.
The instructor will help you put on the EMS full body suit. The suit feels heavy and solid when you wear it. You will have a friendly conversation with the instructor about your exercise history, while they adjust the belt of the suit.

⑤Start training!
The training space is equipped with a digital training mirror and a control tower that sends instructions to the EMS full body suit worn by the participant, and the instructor uses the control tower to adjust the level.

First, you will be asked to test the EMS full body suit to see what kind of vibrations (tingling sensations) it produces, and it is truly a new sensation.
Even though I had used SIXPAD a few times before, I was surprised at first by the tingling sensation that reached my entire body, but I gradually got used to it. (I think it depends on the individual.)

The training program lasts for about 15 minutes and involves performing various movements from Motion 1 to Motion 5 under the guidance of an instructor.
In this trial program, EMS stimulates both the upper and lower body at the same time. You will perform movements such as squats and bench presses while standing, following the instructor's instructions and the example movements shown in the mirror.
Your arms, shoulders, chest, abdominal muscles, buttocks, thighs, etc. are all evenly trained, and the mirror constantly shows you whether your form and posture are correct, so each and every session is worth doing with just the right amount of tension and soul.

The strength of the bodysuit ranges from level 1 to about 35, and the instructor will adjust the training to suit each individual's level.
I once asked the instructor to be strict, and he would judge my reactions and athletic ability and increase the intensity level for each part of my body if I was doing it easily. If I was a little easy on him, he would increase the intensity level, so it goes without saying that the more you push yourself to your limits, the greater the effect .
Of course, it's pretty tough though.

I'm worried about the tingling sensation...
Although I had a hard time getting used to it the first time, by the end of Motion 1 it had become second nature.

Training with the EMS full body suit gave me the impression that it felt more like going against gravity than like training with weights.

As for its effectiveness, the great thing about wearing the EMS full body suit is that you can train multiple exercises with just one movement .
Even just doing squats feels like you're working your abs and chest at the same time (just like training your upper body with dumbbells).

In addition, since the training is performed with proper posture and with stress constantly applied to various parts of the upper and lower body, the more you pay attention to it, the more your core will be trained.

At the end of the training program, there was a game-like program in which you counted how many times you could punch a designated mark within the time limit, and the 15 minutes passed by in the blink of an eye.

Finally, your score for today will be displayed, taking into account Motions 1 to 5.
The score also takes into account whether you perform the exercise with correct posture, and you get a score for each event (body part), so I found it interesting to be able to see the strengths and weaknesses of my own body parts.

⑥Changing clothes and joining information
Finally, you will change clothes and be given an explanation of the plan available if you join.

Summary of the experience

・The ultimate performance can be achieved in just 15 minutes, and the entire process from entering to leaving the venue, including changing clothes, takes about 30 minutes.
・You can do high-intensity serious training with a game-like feel
・Everything about this space is cool, so you can train with maximum motivation

I was just excited to see what kind of body I would have if I continued, and what kind of physical improvements I could expect.

I would also like to add that all the staff and instructors are refreshing and great motivators.

Daikanyama Recommended Gym No. 2: CrossFit Daikanyama

Daikanyama's recommended gyms and CrossFit

CrossFit is characterized by focusing on muscles that are useful in everyday life, and the goal of training is to improve the function of the body's muscles through a variety of movements .
Therefore, unlike simple exercises to lose weight or muscle training to look good, you need to complete a training menu aimed at improving your basic athletic ability .
The goal of CrossFit training is to train "muscles that can really be used" and improve one's own physical abilities.

Training Content

This menu does not simply consist of push-ups and sit-ups; it is characterized by the fact that it is a menu that improves athletic ability (physical ability) by including movement in push-ups and sit-ups.
Anyone can participate in the 60-minute intensive training sessions, and our instructors will tailor the program to suit each individual's fitness level, age, and fitness history.

The contents are as follows:
1. Weightlifting (training using barbells and dumbbells)
2. Gymnastics (body weight training)
3. Cardio (aerobic training using a treadmill, etc.)
The training will focus on these three themes and will have a different theme each time.

CrossFit trial sessions are held on Sundays at the CrossFit Daikanyama store, so I made a reservation in advance and went.

1. Self-introduction & explanation of what CrossFit is 15 minutes
The names of the participants for that day's experience were introduced, along with a brief explanation from the instructor about what kind of training CrossFit is.

② Stretching: 15 minutes
Before exercise, everyone will do some stretching exercises together with the instructor in charge that day.

③ Lecture on the three basic movements: 15 minutes
Introducing the basic movements of CrossFit along with important points to keep in mind.

④ Ranking training based on how many laps you can complete in the three basic events learned in ③ within an eight-minute period. 8 minutes

We tested how many of the following three exercises we could perform with proper form.

・Wall ball (Point: Think of your posture as if you are doing a squat. Hit the wall with the 10kg ball as high as possible.) x 10
- Barbie Jump (Point: When doing push-ups, place your chest on the floor. Clap your hands above your head while jumping) x 10
・Abdominal muscle arrangement (Point: When leaning forward from a cross-legged position, place your palms flat on the ground, and when leaning backward, place the backs of your hands firmly on the ground. It's okay to add some momentum.) x 10

The menu was as follows.

At the trial sessions, people with a wide range of athletic abilities participate together, so the ranking may feel like just a bonus, but it's a system that gets you motivated in the sense that if you're going to do it anyway, you want to aim for number one.

I wasn't sure if my form was up to scratch, but I managed to complete the first few laps.
However, from the last three minutes or so, it's truly a battle with yourself .
With the instructor giving me motivational encouragement, I decided to give it my all.
It's hard to put into words, but the image is of various parts of your body screaming in pain from muscle fatigue, yet trying to push past your limits.

The trial session that day was attended by a mix of people who were confident in their athletic abilities and those who were not, but the training was designed to push everyone to their limits, so I felt that the sense of fulfillment (and fatigue) they felt after just one session was immeasurable.

Of all the participants that day, I happened to be able to complete the most, but I think what's important is not the ranking, but how much you pushed yourself .

However, if you are not used to exercising even a little, you may find it difficult to complete one round of the basic movements, so I felt that this would be perfect for people who exercise a little and want to improve their athletic ability, or for people who usually play aerobic sports and want to improve their competitive level. (Of course, the instructor gave easy-to-follow instructions to those who are not used to exercising, and heavy-duty instructions to those who are very active.)

I feel that CrossFit can be summed up in one sentence: "Building a body that can move, rather than a body that looks good (improving all physical abilities)" !
