Fusubon's commitment to organic bran

Hello, I'm Kawatani, the owner of Fusubon.

Today, I would like to explain why Fusubon is committed to using organic bran .

If you're wondering what a fusuma is, please read this article first.

Reason #1 for sticking to organic bran: The outer layer of bran is the part that is directly exposed to pesticides.

Bran is the part that combines the epidermis and germ in the picture above.

Since it is the outer skin that is directly exposed to pesticides, Fusubon uses organic bran to ensure that it is safe and secure to eat.

Reason 2 for sticking to organic bran
This is because the pesticides absorbed through the roots are easily stored in the germ.

When I recently toured the Iio Brewery (Fuji Vinegar) brewery in Kyoto, we talked about residual pesticides in brown rice, and learned that pesticides tend to accumulate in the husk and germ .

"Pesticide residues" refers to the pesticide residues that remain on crops after they have been used.

I learned a lot from learning that because pesticides are easily soluble in fat, they tend to accumulate in the lipid-rich outer skin and germ.

Contains organic wheat bran and organic oat bran

At Fusbon, we use two types of organic bran: organic wheat bran and organic oat bran.

It is said that by blending an appropriate amount of oat bran, which is rich in soluble dietary fiber, as well as wheat bran, which is rich in insoluble dietary fiber, the dough becomes moist, and the combination of the two also contributes to improving bowel movements.

We get our wheat bran from Ronowa (Kumamoto Prefecture) and Sakurai Foods (Iwate Prefecture), and our oat bran is sourced from Alisan ( Giustos , USA). We ask Ronowa to process the oat bran.

Because the bread is made primarily from bran (the outer layer), we insist on making it organic.

We are committed to using organic ingredients because the main ingredient is the outer skin.

We hope you understand that at Fusubon, we are committed to organic bread because our bread is made primarily from bran, and therefore residual pesticides in the husk and germ are a problem compared to brown rice.

Below is what our actual visit to Ronowa was like and the contents of our conversation.

Visit to organic bran cultivation and discussion

Talk with Ronowa owner Azuma-san (Kawatani) Today, we are talking with President Azuma of Ronowa (Kumamoto Prefecture), who provides Fusubon with organic wheat bran. Mr. Azuma, thank you for always providing us with high-quality organic wheat bran. Thank you for taking the time to join us today despite your busy schedule.

(Higashi) Thank you very much!

(Kawatani) Ronowa even processes wheat bran and oat bran, which is very helpful! First of all, please tell us what motivated you to start farming.

(Azuma) To be honest, I had no other choice because my family was a farming family and I was the eldest son. Now I think it was good that I did it and that it was my calling.

(Kawatani) I see. It's wonderful to feel that you're doing the job that you think is your calling. Although it's been gaining momentum lately, you've been doing organic farming for a while now. Please tell us what prompted you to start organic farming.

(Azuma) My father said to me, "What I feed my grandchildren must be safe." That's what it started with. (Kawatani) I see. You have a wonderful father. I think it's not easy to start organic farming, so how did you learn organic farming?

How did you learn organic farming?

Organic farming

(Toh) I studied under Professor Katano, a professor at Kyushu Tokai University's Faculty of Agriculture. He advocated environmental conservation-oriented agriculture and established a research group with many farmers in the prefecture to hold study sessions.

(Kawatani) I see. My relatives' shop has been using vegetables from Kyushu for a long time, and I have the impression that organic farming is thriving in Kyushu. Please tell us about the future prospects for organic farming.

The outlook for organic farming

(Azuma) Currently, organic agricultural products account for around 2% of the total market. With food safety now a hot topic, we expect the market to grow, so we would like to produce higher quality products.

(Kawatani) Please tell us if you have any particular preferences that are unique to Ronowa. (Higashi) Of course it's organic, but I also talk to my crops and tell them to grow strong.

(Kawatani) I remember a scene in a professional rice cultivation scene where the rice was spoken to. Maybe people who take care of their crops can talk to their crops. You can see that they are really taking care of them. Please tell me about the wheat bran used in Fusubon.

About the organic bran used in Fusubon

How organic bran grows

(Azuma) This is one of the products I'm most confident in! I'm glad that Fusubon has made this great low-carb bread!

(Kawatani) Thank you! Customers often ask me where the wheat bran is from, so being able to see not only the place of origin but also your face gives them a sense of security and makes them very happy. I imagine organic farming is really difficult, so please tell me about the specific difficulties you face.

(Azuma) Weeding is hard work. It is especially hard to do it by hand under the scorching sun in summer. If you neglect it, the yield will decrease and it will affect the cost price of the product. No matter how safe and reliable the product is, if it is too expensive, it will not sell, so we have to work hard to maintain the right price.

(Kawatani) I really want to make sure that my hard work goes to waste, so I want to create a great product! Please tell us about your plans for Noronowa in the future.

(Azuma) To play a role as a pioneer of organic farming and to do influential work in the region. Specifically, I would like to expand agricultural product processing, accept farmland from aging farmers to prevent abandoned farmland, and provide support for the risks associated with expensive machinery investments through machinery banks and operation operators.

(Kawatani) I'm looking forward to it! I look forward to working with you in the future.

Today we have brought you the story of organic wheat bran, which is the identity of Fusubon. See you again!
