What is Omega-3?

Hello, this is the owner of Fusubon. Today I would like to introduce you to "Omega 3".

Omega-3 is a general term for fatty acids such as DHA and EPA found in fish oil, and alpha-linolenic acid found in vegetable oils such as perilla and flaxseed, and is expected to have a wide range of effects, including improving blood flow, lowering cholesterol levels, and suppressing allergies.

Among unsaturated fatty acids, we humans cannot synthesize omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid and omega-6 linoleic acid in our bodies. These fatty acids are called essential fatty acids and must be supplemented from the outside through diet.

The effects of omega-3

Omega-3 is also said to have the effect of suppressing platelet aggregation, making blood vessels flexible, and improving blood circulation.

・Improves blood flow ・Prevents lifestyle-related diseases ・Has an effect on the brain and nerves ・Lowers neutral fats ・Lowers cholesterol (Lowers LDL cholesterol)
-Prevents metabolic syndrome, hyperlipidemia, fatty liver (liver disease), arteriosclerosis, myocardial infarction, and relieves arthritis pain.
・Activates brain function and improves memory and learning ability ・Prevents wrinkles and sagging skin, has anti-aging effects ・Reduces depression symptoms, and suppresses allergies

What foods are high in omega-3?

・Blue fish such as sardines and mackerel, salmon, walnuts, linseed oil, perilla oil, shiso oil

And so on.

Daily intake and omega-6 balance

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare's "Dietary Reference Intakes for Japanese" sets the recommended intake of omega-3 at about 2g per day .

2g is about one teaspoon, so you might think it's an easy amount to consume, but raw horse mackerel is a blue fish that is rich in EPA and DHA, and contains 1.17g of omega-3 per 100g, so you would have to eat just under 200g of horse mackerel to get 2g.

It's hard to eat raw blue fish every day. Also, since omega-3 is easily oxidized and sensitive to heat, it is recommended to take it in the form of a supplement.

For those who are particularly concerned about the accumulation of heavy metals, it is said that omega-3 from small fish such as krill is good. Krill also contains an antioxidant called astaxanthin, so omega-3 supplements using krill have been increasing in number recently and are recommended.

By the way, we will introduce some Fusubon products that are rich in omega-3 at the end.
